Workout BUDDY – Case Study

Project Brief: create a workout fitness app for mobile users

Create a smartphone app which will help people improve their fitness. Our target group is for people who want to exercise more,

but who for various reasons don’t get around to it.

STORYBOARD

My users are Doris and Ben.

Both eat at the hotel during the day at the staff kitchen. There is always food around their environment.: bread, desert, chips, cookies, pies, juice, coffee and tea.

Both Ben and Doris are a bit out of shape because they sit most of their day in their offices attending to emails, and phonecalls and meetings.

They will use this fitness app to help them schedule in more fitness into their everyday lives.

USER
PERSONAS

Doris works as a talent recruiter

in the HR department of a hotel group. She is 38 years, lives by herself in a 2 bed townhouse.

She has a mortgage on her house,

a Netflix account and a few digital magazine subscriptions.

Hotel Receptionist

Ben also works at the same hotel in their marketing department.

He is 35 years and lives in a 1 bedroom apartment.

He enjoys gaming at night when he gets home. He doesn’t cook and normally orders takeout for dinners.

Low-Fidelity Prototype on Figma

After I created the paper prototype, I decided it would be better understood in a low fidelity prototype which I created on figma where you can see the user journey and UI.

In conclusion:
Working out together with a friend has enabled both Doris and Ben to be more motivated to show up and carry through their 30min workout per day.
Feedback from both: It is more enjoyable and did not feel like a huge effort. Instead they have fun while they work out and build a stronger friendship outside of the office.
They have also invited other friends to join them and has now created a fitness group.
Gamifying the workout app by tagging friends and giving smoothie rewards, the users are more engaged and motivated to stay on the app regularly to check in on their friends and on their own progress.
